KAPUSKASING—The Town of Kapuskasing has shared a very memorable moment in its history.
It was a timely opportunity for the Town to share, as the world mourns the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
On a recent social media post the town posted a special memory of Her Majesty. It read as follows:
“In the summer of 1951, the Government of Canada was informed that Their Royal Highness, Princess Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, were to undertake a 33-day tour of Canada.
On Monday, October 15, 1951, at 3:24 p.m., the royal couple arrived in Kapuskasing via a Royal Canadian Air Force Canadair C-5 aircraft.
Three months after their Canadian tour, Princess Elizabeth would begin her reign as Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II.”
The Town of Kapuskasing shared with their community several photos of her time spent in what was once described as “the Model Town of the North.”
The photos shared with the community were courtesy of "Archives of the Ron Morel Memorial Museum.
