Highway reopens after fatal crash near Marathon

The driver of a passenger vehicle was pronounced dead after a collision with a transport on Saturday night.

THUNDER BAY -- A Highway 17 collision has left one person dead. 

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Sunday morning, said the crash, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night near Marathon, involved a commercial transport vehicle and a passenger vehicle. 

The driver of the passenger vehicle did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the commercial motor vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

The highway was closed, between Peninsula Road in Marathon and White River, for more than seven hours while police investigated. It reopened at about 2 a.m. 

The investigation continues.
