NIPIGON  — Highway 17 is now reopened to traffic in both directions after a collision on Friday forced a closure between Nipigon and Schreiber.

According to OPP, a single-vehicle collision involving a transport truck occurred just after 5 p.m. Friday, about 20 kilometres east of Nipigon.

Police say the transport rolled over and caught fire but the driver was not injured and managed to get out safely.

The highway was closed in both directions for just over 5 hours. The westbound lane was reopened around 10:30 p.m. and then fully reopened as of about 3:45 a.m. Saturday.
