The move to having no visitors on site is directly related to a COVID-19 outbreak

GERALDTON – The Geraldton District Hospital has announced on Wednesday that it will no longer be accepting visitors at the main hospital site or the John Owen Evans Residence effective immediately.

Only one essential care partner will be permitted in the emergency department, acute care or long-term care with exceptions being made for end-of-life patients.

The move to having no visitors on site is directly related to a COVID-19 outbreak declared in the Geraldton District Hospital’s acute care unit Wednesday morning.

The hospital says that is working in collaboration with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and that those that could be affected by the outbreak are being notified.

In the meantime, people with mild symptoms of COVID-19 and are otherwise healthy should manage their symptoms at home and hospital staff ask that emergency services are utilized in emergencies only to minimize exposure and COVID-19 transmission.

If you have questions regarding the management of COVID-19 symptoms, the Geraldton District hospital asks that you contact your primary healthcare physician or Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000

Outbreaks can be declared over after 10 days with no new cases and the hospital says it will provide updates as they become available.
