Foul play not ruled out in 2024 death of woman in Nipigon

NIPIGON — Ontario Provincial Police say they are continuing to investigate the death of a woman in Nipigon four months ago.

The remains of the 34-year-old were recovered in the area of the Nipigon Marina by OPP divers on Oct. 12. 2024. 

Members of the Underwater Search & Recovery Unit were called to assist a day after police initially responded to reports of a person in distress in the water.

The identity of the deceased has been withheld at the request of her family.

The Criminal Investigations Branch is still working on the case, according to an update provided by OPP to Newswatch.

"The investigation remains active and ongoing...Foul play cannot be ruled out at this time," police said.
