THUNDER BAY — A forest fire is burning northwest of Eabametoong First Nation, 370 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reports the fire was discovered late Sunday afternoon, about 28 kilometres northwest of the community and five kilometres east of Ferguson Lake.

As of Monday morning, the fire had burned an area of 35 hectares and was not under control.

There is no word yet on how it started.

This is the only active fire in the Northwest region,  where the wildland fire hazard ranges mostly between moderate and high.
