Firearms charges laid following traffic stop

Police said that on Aug. 18, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment were made aware of an individual travelling along Highway 11 who was possibly in possession of a firearm.

GREENSTONE – A traffic stop on Friday Highway 11 resulted in one person facing multiple firearm related charges according to the Ontario Provincial Police.  

Police said that on Aug. 18, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment were made aware of an individual travelling along Highway 11 who was possibly in possession of a firearm. 

 Greenstone OPP members conducted patrols and located the subject motor vehicle. 

 As a result of the investigation, Michael GATES, 42-years-old, of Kingston, has been criminally charged with Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner, Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon, and Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm. 

Gates was held in custody and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton on Aug. 19, to answer to the above charges.
