Doing our bit for the environment: Recycling comes to Manitouwadge

Recycling program will be introduced in Manitouwadge starting on March 14.
Recycling Blue Box

MANITOUWADGE -- The Township of Manitouwadge, after consultation with local public works staff and GFL Environment Ltd, will be implementing a recycling program, starting on March 14, 2022. By removing the excess material that can be recycled, years of use will be added to the current landfill site and help in the fight against global climate change.

Although GFL Environment Ltd. will be operating the service, the existing township public works crew will continue to do the dual garbage and recycling pickups, which will now take place on Mondays for all residential premises, or, in the event of a holiday, the next business day.

Most items, except for glass, will be accepted for recycling. Items are to be separated as follows:

Plastics/metals, including #1 to #7. These include drink bottles, tetra packs, salad and fruit containers, metal cans, etc. Please rinse out any liquid and/or residue. If possible, please place plastic and metals into separate clear or see-through blue bags.

Paper products, including newspapers, flyers, cereal boxes, egg cartons, etc. Flatten cardboard and place into a clear or see-through blue bag.

Cardboard. Please break down larger cardboard items to a pile no larger than 36” x 36” and secure with twine.

All other garbage rules remain the same; all non-recyclable waste must be placed in a bin with a secure lid and left at the curb no earlier than 6 a.m to keep animal intrusion to a minimum. Large items, including rimless tires (passenger and recreational tires only), must be brought to the dump, and batteries and electronic waste can be dropped off at the Public Works yard at 13 Sault Road. Commercial dumpster pickup will continue on Fridays.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns and for the most accurate and current information, residents are welcome and encouraged to please e-mail us at recycling@manitouwadge.ca or call Public Works at 807-826-3277 ext 230.
