MARATHON – With half the school year over, Superior-Greenstone District School Board has announced new hires “that promise to further enrich their educational community.”
Taking on the role of superintendent of education, Carole Leroux will replace Will Goodman, who is transitioning to director of education in September. Leroux stepped into this role on Feb. 5. She is being touted as a “perfect fit” to steer SGDSB toward their vision.
As of Feb. 1, the current principal of Manitouwadge Public School, Tara Balog, assumed the role of assistant superintendent. Her wealth of knowledge, passion for education, and commitment to student success make her a natural leader, SGDSB said.
The principal of Margaret Twomey Public School, Cameron Craig, will assume the role of principal for Manitouwadge Public School on March 18.
The principal of Marathon High School, Stephen Wilson, will transition to Margaret Twomey Public School on March 18 as well.
John Gordon will take over as interim principal of Marathon High School for the remainder of the school year. SGDSB said “they are confident he will lead the school with excellence.”
SGDBS acknowledges that appointing talent internally is a goal laid out in its strategic plan and remains a priority in fostering the growth of their employees.
"A new principal brings fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a renewed energy that can invigorate the school community," said Nicole Morden Cormier, current director of education at Superior-Greenstone District School Board.
"Their arrival signifies an opportunity for positive change and growth, as they bring with them a wealth of diverse experiences and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
"This transition is not just about a change in leadership -- it's about embracing new possibilities, building upon existing strengths, and collectively shaping a brighter future for our children.”
