THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board has appointed a new superintendent of education.

Frank Lacaria begins his duties at the start of the new school year on Sept. 3.

Lacaria has 27 years of experience in education, including the past 10 years as a principal at several schools, including Bishop Gallagher and St. Thomas Aquinas.

In an announcement Wednesday, the board said he's recognized for his dedication to enhance student life in all areas, including physical education, academics, spirituality and mental health.

He's been an advocate for the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association's healthy schools initiative.

Lacaria said he's honoured to join his colleagues at the board office and is grateful to them, to his mentors throughout his career, and to his family.

"It is through their guidance and support that I have been able to grow, succeed and remain committed to making a positive impact in the field of education and student well-being," he stated.
