MANITOUWADGE – Jim Moffat has completed his first term on Manitouwadge town council, and he says that experience, coupled with his many years living in the community, is the reason he decided to run for the mayor’s seat.

“The reason I'm running for mayor is I've spent the last four years on council, and I was getting more and more involved,” he said. “And I feel that now I'm ready to take the next step and go up to lead council for the next four years.”

Moffat, who also has experience as a local business owner, says that if elected mayor, he will focus on continuing to work on ongoing issues as well as trying to build relationships with nearby communities.

“Obviously infrastructure has always been, it's an ongoing issue because we get a lot of water breaks, roads need a lot of repairs,” he said.

“Another thing I want to focus on too is getting a relationship made with Pic River and Pic Mobert, because we haven't really focused on joining up with them on regional issues.”

Moffat says that that his time living in the community as well as his many years of inovlement with various community initiatives make him the best choice for mayor of Manitouwadge.

“The reason people should vote for me is, I've been here for over 50 years," he said. “I've been in business in downtown Manitowadge for, my God, about 30 years and always was involved in the community... I think I'm going to do a really good job.”
