WEBEQUIE — A 31 year-old man from Webequie First Nation is facing a pair of charges after an alleged stabbing in the remote community earlier this week.
According to Nishnawbe Aski police, officers arrested the man after he turned himself into police on Wednesday afternoon, a day after police said he attacked another person in the vicinity of the community’s school.
The victim, police said, was taken to the local nursing station for evaluation and treatment of their injuries. In a media release issued Thursday afternoon, they added that the extent of the person’s injuries was unknown, but they were believed to be “serious but non-life threatening.”
The accused is charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
According to police, the man appeared in bail court on Thursday and remains in custody with a future court date.
