SCHREIBER — An 80-year-old from British Columbia was stopped after nearly doubling the highway speed limit in Northwestern Ontario.

Provincial police said officers with the Schreiber detachment were patrolling Highway 17 near Rossport on Tuesday when they observed a vehicle going 170 kilometres per hour in the 90 zone.

Police stopped the vehicle and charged the driver, an 80-year-old from Port Coquitlam, and charged him with stunt driving.

The driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

He was issued a court summons and is scheduled to appear in a Schreiber court at a later date.
