DESCRIPITON:
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Central News Desk Editor to focus our digital efforts. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for curating, editing, and coordinating the timely and accurate delivery of news content to our network of websites. The ideal candidate will have a strong journalistic background, exceptional editorial skills, a strong understanding of SEO and headline writing, and a keen eye for detail. You will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and consistency across our digital platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content Management:
- Oversee the seamless flow of news content to various websites.
- Maintain the Beyond Local section across the network, sharing content from our own newspapers as well as other sources such as CP and LJI.
- Collaborate with newsrooms to select news stories for publication.
- For content created by the central news desk, edit and proofread articles for grammar, style, accuracy, and adherence to the CP guidelines.
- Assist in the development of localized versions of major stories affecting our readership on a day-to-day basis.
- Monitor local polls, encouraging editors and publishers to keep their polls up-to-date and engaging.
- Guide messaging and delivery of newsletter content.
Coordination and Planning:
- Develop a content calendar in coordination with local editors, ensuring a balanced coverage of news topics and events.
- Coordinate with different sections (e.g., politics, business, culture) to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive news experience for readers.
- Prioritize breaking news stories and allocate resources effectively to cover them in real time.
Quality Control:
- Enforce editorial standards and guidelines to maintain the integrity and credibility of the publication.
- Fact-check information and verify sources to ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Provide constructive feedback to writers, helping them enhance their skills and adhere to the websites style with a particular focus on writing for digital channels.
Headline and SEO Optimization:
- Craft compelling headlines that capture readers' attention and accurately reflect the content of the article.
- Optimize articles for search engines by incorporating relevant keywords and meta tags.
Audience Engagement:
- Monitor audience engagement metrics and adjust content strategies accordingly to increase readership and user satisfaction.
- Monitor and respond to reader feedback, comments, and queries, fostering a sense of community engagement.
Adaptation to Emerging Trends:
- Stay up to date with digital publishing trends and evolving news consumption habits to ensure the publication remains innovative and competitive.
