The Joy of New-to-You Shopping

The Joy of New-to-You Shopping

Donate or consign: Bring us your B team

There are lots of methods out there to decluttering closets and clothing (just google it or search on YouTube – there are literally hundreds of different ideas and suggestions) but today we’re going to focus on one super simple one: the team approach.
Every closet has an A team and a B team. Your A team are those tried and true, reach for them all the time, go with everything pieces that you love and wear a lot.
Your B team are the pieces that sit in the closet and haven’t seen the light of day or the dark of a night out for awhile. They might be your impulse buys, emotional cling-ons, and the ones that just never seem to work but you keep them out of sense of optimism or guilt. Or they are previous A team pieces you just don’t wear anymore. Your B team can do better – they can become someone’s A team.

Here’s how you can approach the closet clean-out:

1. Focus on one clothing type at a time – blouses, pants, skirts etc.
2. Take that whole section out and lay it out or hang them up
somewhere not in the closet
3. Now be brutally honest: which have you worn the most, reach
for and don’ t put back, fit you beautifully, and/or goes with at
least three other pieces you own? That’s your A team and those
pieces can go back into the closet
4. Repeat the process until you’ve completed all the sections in the
closet.
5. What will be left out of closet is your B team. Now things get
challenging.
6. Try everything on (make sure hair and makeup are done for this
part because when you look good, you feel good and that’s
important😊)
7. Pieces on the B team can get back into the closet if you love
how they look right now and most importantly, they go with at
least two pieces on the A team. Most clothing ends up on the B
team because they just aren’t part of your closet/your look/your
style so if they don’t play nice with your A team, they aren’t right
for you.
8. You should expect (or aim for) 1/3 to 1/2 of your B team not
making it back into the closet. If you are uber-organized and/or
a minimalist, it might be less but for the rest of us, that’s a good
estimation.
9. If they don’t make the cut but in good condition, donate or
consign them (with May Court Nearly New Shop of course…)
10. Now your closet has the room and space to add in new pieces
and keep your look fresh.
