The North Shore will be busy this weekend with Nipigon hosting the 58th annual Fall Fishing Festival from Thursday through Labour Day.
“It all started when two liquor store employees of the township of Nipigon were brainstorming ideas on showcasing the area's incredible world-class fishing, they brought it to a town meeting and it became the Fall Fishing Festival,” says Casey Clearwater, the owner and social media manager Clear'ly You Communications.
The event will be packed with local vendors, food trucks, car shows, tournaments and lots of fun activities for kids, like FUNtastic Inflatables.
“This year we have over 40 vendors in the Nipigon community centre, which is incredible,” says Clearwater.
“The most of the popular events are the slo-pitch tournament, the salmon derby, the parade, the giant penny auction, family fun races.”
Proceeds from the festival are distributed to local organizations including Nipigon Legion, Elks Lodge, Northshore Golf Club and the Nipigon Curling Club. Funds benefit programs such as minor hockey, youth curling, cadets and high school bursaries.
The dance on Saturday night at the Nipigon Legion, hosted by local DJ Luke Zechner — age of majority required admission is $5 and doors open 8 pm to 1:00 am.
