KOBE receives the Keewaytinook Centre of Excellence

The Keewaytinook Centre of Excellence has moved to the Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education.

The Keewaytinook Centre of Excellence is a modern training facility committed to the delivery of affordable, professional technical and academic training programs.

The Centre currently provides training to assist First Nation water and wastewater operators in preparing for certification exams.

The executive board of KOBE and Chiefs of Keewaytinook Okimakanak felt the Centre of Excellence fit best within the Board of Education.

This move should allow the Centre to continue to provide the excellent service it is known for while the supports and systems in place at KOBE encourage growth and expansion of the training opportunities.

KOBE Partners with UCN to Offer EA Certification to Northern First Nations

The Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education has partnered with University College of the North (UCN) to remotely deliver the Education Assistant Certificate Program to over two dozen students in Northern First Nations communities.

The goal of this 18-month certificate program is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and proficiencies needed to succeed as certified education assistants.

The course is for individuals working as education assistants in KO communities.

Many of the education assistants working in the First Nations schools are community members without formal training.

This collaboration allows these dedicated educators to receive accreditation without leaving their home communities, unlike other education opportunities which require relocation.

The certification program provided by UCN includes preparatory courses for those who have not been on that side of a classroom for a number of years.

The hope is that the success of this program will lead to other remote learning opportunities for students in northern First Nations communities.
