One person was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say hypodermic needles were thrown at a victim on Queen Street East.

Shortly before 3 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Queen Street East to find that the suspect had fled the scene.

It is alleged that a 24-year-old woman "had thrown hypodermic needles at a victim who had attempted to stop them from bothering someone. The accused and victim are unknown to one another," says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

No injuries were reported.

The accused was located a short time later on Bay Street and arrested.

The 24-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on July 8 and stands charged with assault with a weapon.

The allegation has not been tested in court and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
