Winter travel advisories, snowfall warnings in place

MARATHON  – Communities north of Lake Superior remain in a winter travel advisory, which went into effect on Friday morning.

Environment Canada says snowfall accumulations of up to 10 centimetres are expected in the region, with snowfall lasting through Friday evening, the result of an Alberta clipper making its way through the area.

Affected communities include Marathon, Schreiber and Nipigon, which is under a snowfall advisory along with Rossport, and could receive between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow.

A weather advisory is in place in Geraldton, Longlac and Caramat, with up to 10 centimetres of snow expected between Friday morning and Friday evening.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving. A disabled vehicle at Cavers Road, near Rossport, has Highway 17 down to one lane at this time.
