Two people die in Highway 17 collision east of Nipigon

NIPIGON — Ontario Provincial Police continue to investigate a collision that claimed the lives of two people on Highway 17 on Tuesday.

The drivers of a pickup truck and a passenger vehicle both died in the accident which occurred at about 3:30 p.m., approximately 20 kilometres east of Nipigon.

They were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victims' identities have not been released but OPP said they were a 66-year-old woman from Manitouwadge and a 25-year-old man from Hawk Junction, Ont.

The collision forced a lengthy closure of the highway, which reopened shortly after 10:30 p.m.
