NIPIGON — No one was injured, but a tractor-trailer became submerged in Lake Nipigon after going out of control on Highway 11 near Orient Bay on Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police said the transport truck went out of control during poor weather conditions shortly after 12:00 p.m.

OPP said the driver was able to exit the cab safely while it was still resting on the ice.

According to photos posted on social media, the ice initially supported the weight of the transport truck, but ultimately gave way.

Police provided assistance to the driver and took him to a nearby motel to rest.

"Drivers are reminded to exercise caution and adjust to hazardous weather conditions, especially during winter months," OPP said in a statement Monday.
