THUNDER BAY — More frozen breakfast items have been added to a listeria recall across Canada.

Multiple brands of frozen waffles are being recalled over listeria concerns, and now frozen pancake brands have been added to the list.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling dozens of types of frozen waffles and pancakes, including the Nature's Path Selection brand, no name, Great Value, Compliments, President's Choice, and Western Family.

Even the food supplier, GFL (Gordon's Food Supply), is recalling its bulk box of frozen waffles and Duncan Hines.

The recalled items vary in flavour, from the original and buttermilk flavours to chocolate chip and blueberry, and the company triggered the recall.

The original recall on the CFIA website included additional brands because of the company’s food safety investigation.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses.

The CFIA says food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes might not look or smell bad, but it could still make someone sick.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth.

It is suggested that the recalled products not be consumed.

The items can either be thrown out or returned to the location they were purchased.
