THUNDER BAY — Members of the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) will learn from a local Indigenous women's group during a trip to New Zealand.
In a release, ONWA CEO Cora McGuire-Cyrette called it an honour to work with the Māori Women’s Welfare League (MWWL).
"Given the current international climate, coming together as an international community with Indigenous women at the forefront is critical.
"Sharing, listening, and learning from one another is essential to build safe communities. This is how change will happen.”
During the conference, both groups will sign an agreement that symbolizes working together for "the safety, health, and well-being of Indigenous women, girls, and families in their respective territories."
“We are honoured to stand in solidarity with the MWWL. We know the power of relationships, learning, and sharing. We are reclaiming our ways of knowing and being,” – Krystal Brant, ONWA Board President, said in the release.
ONWA members are in New Zealand from Oct 9 to 13.
