One person dead after Highway 17 collision

MARATHON, ON — Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed the death of one person in a collision Monday afternoon near Marathon.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was driving a passenger vehicle that came into collision with a tractor-trailer on Highway 17 in Lecours Township.

In a statement Wednesday morning, OPP said the truck driver was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The accident forced the prolonged closure of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Members of the North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team continue their investigation with the assistance of technical collision re-constructionists.
