RED ROCK – Nature features prominently on nearly every page of Terry-Lynn Johnson’s collection of Christmas poems, which will have a book launch Nov. 23 in Nipigon.

And it’s not just because trees are an iconic part of the season.

“I identify myself as a Canadian romantic poet, writing about nature,” Johnson says from home after her day job as a school teacher.

“And, you know, I've always been in the natural surroundings of Northwestern Ontario.

“I was born in Nipigon, and right now I’m living in Red Rock, which has beautiful surroundings.

“I’ve been finding solace in nature from a young age.”

This Christmas: Seasonal Poems for Peace gets its launch from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Edge Arts Studio & Gallery, 38 Front St. in Nipigon, on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The event will include readings from the author and music performed by Johnson’s husband, Michael Kivari.

“You know, nature is all around us, especially in small-town Northwestern Ontario,” says Johnson.

“And it’s so healing, right? If you pay attention, you’ll find nature is so healing. It always puts me back in balance. If I need to balance out, I’ll go for a walk in nature.”

Johnson said she already has another collection ready for publication after this holiday collection.

That book will be out in early 2025, she said.

Admission to the launch for This Christmas is free. Cash is required to buy the book.
