MNR monitors new forest fire near Eabametoong

DRYDEN —The Ministry of Natural Resources is keeping tabs on a new wildfire burning not far from Eabametoong First Nation.

The fire was discovered Monday near Hector Lake, about 24 kilometres away.

As of Tuesday morning, it had burned an area of 20 hectares.

The MNR said it is currently keeping the fire under observation.

Two other forest fires were discovered Monday in Northwestern Ontario.

An outbreak that's consumed three hectares is located about 40 kilometres northeast of Kingfisher Lake First Nation, and is also being observed for the time being.

The third new fire has burned two hectares near Margot Lake, 20 kilometres southwest of North Spirit Lake First Nation.

There are currently eight active wildfires in various stages of control in the Northwest Region.

The forest fire hazard is moderate to low, with isolated pockets of high hazard.
