Residents of Manitouwadge are being invited to submit their name to be considered by the new municipal council to serve on three local boards and committees.

Applications are open for residents to join the library board, property standards appeal committee, and the Manitouwadge cemetery committee.

Each board’s term runs for four years, concurrent with the town councillor’s tenures. Applications, which can be picked up at the municipal office during regular hours or downloaded from the Township of Manitouwadge website, must be submitted to chief administrative officer Florence MacLean no later than 2:00 p.m. on Dec. 2. Appointments will be made at the regular council meeting on December 14th.

The six members of the library board meet monthly, where they discuss and assess the needs, developments, and strategies of the local public library. They seek to grow and expand the library’s presence within the municipality, finding innovative and creative ways to keep Manitouwadge educated, connected, and informed. You can read more about the board’s plans and policies on their website’s 2021–2026 Strategic Plan document.

The property standards appeal committee, consisting of five appointed members, meets on an as-needed basis and is responsible for considering appeals in accordance with the procedures established under the property standards bylaw, which was recently reviewed and updated. The board’s primary function is to consider applications for minor variances from the provisions of existing zoning bylaws and decide whether a request is valid, and that a modification of the rule is justified. More information is available on the Township of Manitouwadge’s website, under ‘Boards and Committees of Council.’

The Manitouwadge Cemetery is owned and operated by the Township of Manitouwadge; and is governed by municipal by-laws and provincial legislation. The Cemetery Committee meets approximately two times per year. Members, who recognize the importance of regular monitoring and upkeep of the cemetery, provide input to municipal staff regarding the maintenance and care of the cemetery and surrounding grounds.
