Manitouwadge launches revamped municipal website

The Township of Manitouwadge has launched its new website.

MANITOUWADGE — After a lengthy delay, the Township of Manitouwadge launched its long-awaited new website this week.

Township CAO Florence MacLean announced the news at the Wednesday's council meeting.

"We’re very excited to have launched our new website, so if you haven’t checked it out, please do," she said. "We hope you find it easier to navigate and with updated information and enjoy all the photos that are on it as well.”

The new website, which was developed in collaboration with Firedog Communications in Thunder Bay, contains much of the same information as the original, but in a more cohesive layout. The design is clean and bright, and the fonts are clear and, for the most part, self-explanatory. Tabs that lead into significant portals, such as ‘Bill Payments,’ or ‘MyManitouwadge.ca’ can be navigated easily. Links to the Manitouwadge Town Council meeting information page can now be accessed without having to leave the original site or navigate through several separate pages.

The website is divided under numerous headings and sub-headings. Within the ‘Government’ section, there is information on the town council, boards and committees, township services, and other resources, including the current bylaws and policies.

The ‘Residents’ page leads to important information, such as links to the arena schedule, community programming, the job bank, and ‘The Boreal, Manitouwadge’s monthly newsletter, among other features. The ‘Development’ pages outline the strategies and resources of the economic, community and business and the tourism section features pages on the history of Manitouwadge, things to do and places to stay, as well as a page of 20 local photographs.

There is still some work to be done, as much as the information is outdated or misdirected, and there are still issues related to the ease of use of the website, such as navigation of the pages, the search engine, and various broken or unfinished links. There are missing sections, such as the much heralded ‘Truth Corner,’ introduced in June 2022, and the Business Directory shows only the hotel and alternative accommodations in town; there is no information about other businesses or services listed.

The website page address — manitouwadge.ca — remains the same as the previous version
