THUNDER BAY — Highway maintenance staff in the Thunder Bay region are working under a new collective agreement.
Members of the Labourers' International Union of North America local 607 completed a ratification vote on Monday.
They voted 64 per cent in favour of a new deal with Emcon Services Inc., which maintains area highways under a contract with the Ministry of Transportation.
The four-year agreement will expire in September 2027.
A spokesperson for the union said its bargaining team didn't get everything it was looking for, but still felt the company's offer should be brought to the membership for a vote.
In a statement to TBnewswatch, he said "the lower acceptance percentage should indicate to the company that there is still work to do in meeting the expectations of our members in our next contract negotiations."
The union declined to disclose the terms of the settlement.
It applies to workers who maintain highway 11/17 from Nipigon to Thunder Bay, Highway 61 to the U.S. border, and Highway 527 to Armstrong.
