WAWA — Adverse weather conditions forced the closure of a lengthy stretch of Highway 17 north of Lake Superior on Wednesday morning.
Ontario 511 reported both lanes in the section between Wawa and Batchawana Bay were closed until further notice.
Environment Canada issued a snow squall warning for the area north of Sault Ste. Marie including Montreal River Harbour and Batchawana Bay, with accumulations up to 25 centimetres.
Numerous tractor trailers were reportedly stuck on the Montreal River hill.
By late afternoon, the notice of the highway closure had been removed from the Ontario 511 website.
