THUNDER BAY -- With the windchill expected to make it feel at times like its -40 C out between now and Tuesday. Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold weather warning.
The prolonged cold snap could last until Wednesday in some areas.
According to the government weather service, the extreme cold temperatures are expected to arrive on Saturday evening, the result of Arctic air sweeping across Northwestern Ontario.
The public is advised to dress warmly when heading outside, and to dress in layers. Watch for cold-related symptoms, like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
The warning covers the City of Thunder Bay and communities to the east of Thunder Bay, including Marathon and Schreiber. The warning extends to the east, to Dryden and Vermillion Bay, where wind chill values could drop to as low as -45 C. It's currently -25.7 C in Dryden.
