Eabametoong man faces assault charge

Nishnawbe Aski police have charged a 20 year-old with assault causing bodily harm after a reported incident on Monday.

EABAMETOONG — A 20 year-old man from Eabametoong has been charged after an alleged assault, according to Nishnawbe Aski police.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon, NAPS said that officers were called about a disturbance outside near the community’s arena on Monday just before 7 a.m.

Police found a man who they said appeared to have been recently assaulted. He was subsequently taken to the local nursing station for further evaluation and treatment.

On Wednesday, police said they identified a suspect and arrested him without incident.

The 20 year-old has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and failing to comply with a court order.

After a bail hearing on Thursday, police said he remains in custody with a future court date.
