THUNDER BAY — A multi-vehicle collision forced the closure of part of Highway 11/17 in both directions between Thunder Bay and Nipigon early Wednesday afternoon.
Ontario Provincial Police said the collision was reported at about 1:20 pm, and involved a transport truck and several other vehicles at a location near the East Loon Road in the Municipality of Shuniah.
At least one of the vehicles caught fire.
The highway initially was fully blocked between Pearl and the junction with Highway 587, but was later extended west to the Highway 527 junction.
Traffic control is in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
