MARATHON — Last week the North of Superior Healthcare Group’s annual Chief Executive Officer Challenge helped raise $26,000 for a new long-term care home in Marathon.

North of Superior Healthcare Group CEO Adam Brown said he is feeling “surprisingly good” after his 24-hour walk, which began in Biigtigong Nishnaabeg and end in Marathon.

The CEO Challenge began nine years ago as a way to fundraise for local hospitals.

Although the challenge has been held in many places along the north shore, the objectives remained the same. Brown would walk for 24 hours with the goal of completing 120 kilometres, while inviting community figures to join along.

“We invite local community leaders ranging from politicians to business owners to come out and spend a couple of hours with me out on the road, and hopefully raise some money for us,” said Brown.

The ask of the people who participate is to walk for two hours, which is approximately 10 kilometres, and hopefully bring along $1,000 or more in fundraising with them. Over the years, the funding has proven critical for improving various equipment and medical infrastructure projects.

“We've raised money for everything from lab equipment to surgical equipment to you name it. There's, there's always a need for money to support operations in the hospitals and long-term care homes,” said Brown.

This year’s CEO Challenge was directed toward raising funds for North of Superior Healthcare Group’s Family Closer to Home Campaign, which Brown said the goal for the campaign is $2 million.

“So, one per cent of our goal but, but the reality is there's never enough money,” Brown said.
