Candidate Profile (Manitouwadge): John MacEachern

John MacEachern

MANITOUWADGE – John MacEachern has served as the mayor of the Township of Manitouwadge for a combined total of 12 years, and he says he still has some work to do.

“I had two terms and I just missed one, and then I had another term, and there are still some projects that I feel that can be done and have to be done,” he said.

“I figure I should be around because we're going to have a lot of new councillors this year, and I think they need a little bit of help just running the council.”

MacEachern says that there are still a few specific issues Manitouwadge council has been working on that he hopes to play a role advancing as mayor.

“One is the revitalization of the town, which we've started the project on, and we should finish it next year. The second thing is the ski hill, that needs some serious work on it, and we need to have a new building up there,” he said.

“And the third thing is the asset management for the town that we've been working on for a while... we need to know exactly what our assets are and when they have to be replaced and how much it's going to cost to replace them.”

MacEachern said that the people of Manitouwadge should vote for him for his experience leading the town, as well as his experience in leadership roles in the private sector.

“I was an executive in a bank for 30 years and I'm used to running boards and running councils,” he said. “And so I think I'm probably the person that has the experience that you need to do this job.”
