Attempted murder charge laid in Webequie First Nation

WEBEQUIE FIRST NATION – Police have arrested and charged a man with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing incident Saturday in Webequie First Nation.

According to a release issued on Sunday by Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, Oct. 19, when police were called to a report of a serious assault in the community.

The victim, a female, was initially treated at the community nursing station and later transported to hospital in Thunder Bay for further evaluation and treatment of her injuries. The victim remains in hospital but the extent of her injuries is not publicly known at this time.

The accused was arrested and taken into custody on Saturday night.

Bryton Jermaine Dante Quisses, 26, of Webequie First Nation, faces charges of attempt to commit murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused appeared in bail court on Sunday and was remanded into custody to face a future court appearance.
