Lawrence Poleschuk, aged 54, passed away at home on Tuesday April 30th, 2024 following 15 years of ill health.

Born on June 27th, 1969 in Fort William Ontario to John and Diana Poleschuk. Lawrence was the youngest of 3 children and grew up in Vickers Heights surrounded by close family. He attended Holy Family School, St. Patrick’s High School, and Confederation Collage.

While growing up, summers were a magical time for Lawrence traveling, and attending a multitude of camps and sporting activities with friends and his visiting cousin Billy.

Lawrences love of golf began at that time and he was often seen “towing” his clubs while cycling to Municipal Golf Course. He developed a small business collecting, cleaning, and selling “lost” golf balls.

This was the beginning of a life full of collections. Baseball & hockey cards as well as reading a multitude of sporting magazines resulted in an encyclopedic knowledge of stats, and averages in sports. Discussions between Lawrence and his dad, brother, uncle and nephew Billy were truly epic in duration, volume and scope.

Lawrence was the greatest fan of L.A. Kings, and the N.Y.  Yankees and was always seen wearing his hoodies and caps. While helping to visually date coins with his Uncle Paul he began his own collection of old and unusual coins and tokens.

After college he went to work at the Avenor mill for a year. With lifelong friend Kenny he then moved to Gold River B.C. to work in the mill located there. After 3 years with the mill closure Lawrence returned to Thunder Bay.

He soon started working with his friend Joe moving furniture. Lawrence and Joe loved playing pool and yard sales and were soon embroiled in buying, trading and selling retro collectables. Lawrence also served as a caregiver cooking, shopping and driving our dad to appointments around town for 10 years.

Predeceased by his parents, uncles: Paul Poleschuk, Joe and Richard Silver, and aunt Marianne Silver.

Lawrence is survived by: sister, Cathy (Jim) Wing, brother, John (Angie) Poleschuk, nephews Robin Wing (Kühlungsborn, Germany), Billy Poleschuk (Moose Jaw Sask.), nieces, Caitlyn Wing (London, Ont.), and Tielle Poleschuk (Kenora, Ont.)  Also surviving are aunts, Evelyn and Francis Poleschuk, Penny McConnell (Brentwood, Tennessee), Lorna Silver (Kamloops, B.C.) uncles Jim (Cheryl) Silver (Delta, B.C.) and Mike (Susan) Silver (Pass Lake, Ont.) and numerous cousins located across almost all provinces and states.

Thanking cousin Julia (Rob) Marson (Ottawa, Ont.) for coming to attend Lawrence’s celebration of Life.

The family of Lawrence would like to express a great appreciation and thank you to the VON and other medical professionals who supported Lawrence over the past 15 years.

Cremation has taken place and interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Renal Unit at TBRH, or the Diabetes Society.
